　　　回首30年前，伴奏乐手Glenn Frey和Don Henley邀集主吉他手Bernie Leadon与贝斯手Randy Meisner共同组成的Eagles(老鹰合唱团)，从所取团名到音乐上早期的乡村摇滚风格至后期加州摇滚，无不象征着道地的美国文化，也难怪他们解散12年后为MTV台举办的不插电演唱会再聚首时，仍是万众瞩目、佳评如潮，全球乐迷无不庆幸他们的再出发。
　　　迈入2001年，Eagles又开始在全球巡回演唱，这张《The Very Best Of The Eagles》正是记录他们1972年至1982年10年间的17首畅销歌曲，包括首张同名专辑的3首单曲“Take It Easy”、“Witchy Woman”、“Peaceful Easy Feeling”；第二张专辑《Desperado》人人哼唱的慢板佳作“Desperado”、“Tequila Sunrise”；第三张专辑《On The Border》中为他们拿下第一首冠军单曲的“Best Of My Love”；获得冠军金唱片的第四张专辑《One Of These Nights》中的三首单曲“One Of These Nights”、“Lying Eyes”、“Take It To The Limit”；百万白金钜作《Hotel California》中的冠军曲“New Kid In Town”、“Hotel California”；1979年专辑《The Long Run》中推出的“Heartache Tonight”、“The Long Run”等，并以数字技术重新录音，让乐迷们一次回味70年代加州摇滚代表乐团的所有精华，也让听觉多了一份新的聆赏体验。

乐团介绍：
　　　The Eagles是七十年代商业上最成功的乐队之一，同时也是有史以来单张专辑销售记录的保持者。他们将乡村、民谣与摇滚结合成的流行摇滚风格一直是一种十分畅销的音乐风格。1972年，乐队“伴而优则签”，签约于Ronstadt的公司Asylum，并发行了处女作《The Eagles》，结果十分不错。1975年专辑《One of These Nights》在一发行初期即打上排行榜首。于1979年秋完成《The Long Run》后，乐队于1981年正式解散。1994年，The Eagles重组，发行了记录这些演出现场的专辑《Hell Freezes Over》，热卖至今。

专辑制作张张畅销
　　　昔日的加州音乐大致以两种音乐为主流,其一是把音乐与动的本质融合在摇滚乐里的"冲浪乐"(Surf Music),另一是反映了当时的社会,文化,政治的"民谣摇滚"(Folk Rock),虽然后者不象前者那么标榜当时美国青年活泼爽朗的特点,但被人与乡村音乐视为一体后就不被大众所喜好了.早期加州西海岸乡村摇滚较为杰出的团体有Byrds,Poco,....而Eagles正好延续了乡村音乐的精髓,在70年代绽放出强烈光芒。Eagles之所以能秉成他们原有的特色,全靠其中两位团员Randy Meisner及Bernie Leadon努力.
　　
　　　若说Eagles是"美国最伟大的摇滚乐团",一点也不为过.他们所推出的每一张唱片都得到金唱片以上的成绩.我们也可从这些专辑中发现,Eagles的乐风随着时间也有些变化,而这个改变与其间的人员变动有关.
　　
　　　1971年8月出组团之初,他们走的是乡村摇滚路线,70年代中期,Joe Walsh加入了他们的行列之后,乐风以偏重纯摇滚了.事实也证明了Eagles在这段蜕变期立即获得音乐界的赏识,1975年他们以一曲<<Lying Eyes>>得到第一项格莱美奖,接着又在1978年分别以两首歌曲<<New Kids In Town>>,<<Hotel Califonia>>得到了"最佳合声编曲奖"及"最佳小唱片奖",接着的一张力作<<Heartache Tonight>>,又拿到了格莱美的"最佳摇滚团体"奖.
Eagles正式成立
　　　Bernie Leadon最擅长的乐器之一是班诺琴(Beanjo),这种乐器的使用形成 Eagles 在早期乐风上的一大特色.Leadon在Eagles的时间不算很长,可是他在Eagles那个时候所发表的音乐,才是最清纯,最让人怀念的音乐.
　　
　　　Eagles的歌大都出自于Don Henley,Glen Frey之手,他们两人是乐团的核心人物,也是自始至终唯一坚守自己岗位的老团员.Don Henley曾是Shiloh的一员,1970年发行了一张同名专辑,为他们制作唱片的正是大名鼎鼎的Kenny Rogers.来自底特律的 Glen Frey是为了追求J.D.Souther的妹妹,才来到加州闯天下的.1968年他于Souther组成了一个二重唱,此时关系于他们很接近的还有Jackson Brownne,因为这层情谊的关系,所以我们可以发现不少Eagles的作品,有J.D. Souther和Jackson Brownne名字出现.
　　
　　　组成Eagles的构想人是Don Henley和Glen Frey,他们在吟游诗人俱乐部里相识,随即他们加入Linda Lansday的乐团里.除了Henley和Frey之外,Randy Meisner和Bernie Leadon以"客座"的身份也被邀请在Linda的班底,他们四人在此风云际会,短短四个月时间,竟在小伙子们满腔热血的促动下,Eagles应运而生了!
早期作品略带灰色
　　　成立之后的Eagles有几项特色,每位团员都擅长写曲,又都能胜任主唱一职,这自然在声效及合声方面技高一筹,这就是为什么Eagles能在一开始就受到许多歌迷的爱戴而一飞冲天了.Eagles的团员实力都不错,但要他们发挥的淋漓尽致,还需要一位有经验的制作人.他们找来了Glyn Johns,他是一位名唱片制作人,曾为Rolling Stone,The Who,Faces,Eric Clapton制作过唱片.1972年他把Eagles带到London,在闻名的Olympic Studio完成了第一张专辑,这是一首典型乡村风格的作品,推出发行的第一支代表作<<Take it Easy>>便是一个例子.该曲是Jackson Brownnie与Frey和写的,Brownnie还为Eagles写了<<Nightinggale>>,那也是一首相当好听的歌.<<Desperado>>是Glyn Johns在伦敦为Eagles录制的第二张专辑,虽然它的销售状况最不理想,可是它在概念上所表现出的整体性,使一帮老乐迷无不承认这张唱片的价值.仅从"Desperado"字面上看,可知整张专辑所叙述的大意:一位年仅21岁的亡命之徒误入歧途而触犯法律的故事.Dooling Dalton是剧中人物,故事发生在1880年的美国西部.
　　
　　　不可否认的是Eagles早期的作品稍微带了点灰色,他们常靠着各种刺激来寻求内心的平静,最常看到他们在歌曲中所引用的方式,便是在异性中寻找自我.
进身超级乐队行列
　　　1974年对Eagles来说是变化最大的一年.这一年他们会到洛杉机录制唱片.Don Felder的加入使得Eagles阵容更为强大,该团成了名副其实的"五重奏".同年四月当<<On The Border>>推出之后,Eagles更往前迈进了一步,进入了超级乐队的行列:这张专辑为他们在格莱美奖中获得两项提名.
　　
　　　Donn Felder与Bernie Leadon过去是佛罗里达州的同学,因为这层关系,他加入了Eagles的行列,何况Felder本身在吉他上的造诣也非比寻常,他的加入可祢补Eagles在乐器伴奏上的不足,同时也可提升Eagles创作上的素质,从此Bernie Leadon就专注于他拿手的班诺琴及节奏吉他,而主奏吉他的角色就系于Felder一个人身上了.
顶峰之际元老求去
　　　为了促销<<On The Border>>,Eagles参加了一系列的演唱活动,其中一场是在1974年的4月6日.与几个著名乐团共同参加的.除了Eagles是大家集中的焦点外,其他象Deep Purple,Black Sabbath,...也是备受瞩目的乐团.
　　
　　　Don Felder在录制<<On The Border>>的时候,仅在几首歌里担任重要的角色,但是在下一张专辑<<One of These Nights>>有精湛的表现.从这张专辑可以看出,Eagles正在向摇滚化方向发展,但也不可否认这是Eagles后期作品中,最后一张乡村气息较浓的专辑.那首非常轻快好听的中板歌曲<<Lying Eyes>>就是例子.这首歌得到了格莱美最佳流行歌曲奖.
　　
　　　正值Eagles顶峰时期,Bernie Leadon突然下堂求去.Ealges组团之初,Bernie Leadon,Randy Meisner一直是被看好的两为台柱,<<Desperado>>以后,Glen Frey和Don Henley表现的愈来愈称职,逐渐成为乐团的发言人.后来Leadon因为与其他团员不睦,甚至于有被忽视的感觉,所以才会造成这种局面.
创下一连串佳绩
　　　1976年,Eagles写下一个历史记录,他们的集锦专辑<<Greatest Hits>>,成了唱片史上第三张未发行就有100万张订单的专辑.
　　
　　　接替Leadon位置的是James Gang的吉他手Joe Walsh,由于他的加入,Eagles的乐风更加摇滚化了.<<Hotel Califonia>>可说是Eagles在最佳状态,最佳组合之下所完成的一张旷世之作,它的销售量在80年代初就已突破1500万张!
　　
　　　70年代中期,Eagles发行的三张专辑都荣登排行的榜首.分别是1975年7月26日得到5周冠军的<<One of These Night>>,1976年3月31日也得到5周冠军的<<Greatest Hits>>,及1977年1月15日得到8周冠军的<<Hotel California>>.
　　
　　　这里不得不提一下Eagles获得评价与呼声最高的那首"Hotel California"了.它的特殊之处在于Don Felder与Joe Walsh所搭配出的双吉他效果,另外,歌曲故事本身也很玄,字里行间洋溢着神秘的气氛,歌中唱到:任何人来到加州旅馆没有不受欢迎的,但是这里却有个规矩,只收旅客,不放走客人,任何时间你都可以结帐,只是你出不了大门.主唱Don Henley在这张唱片中的表现让人不得不刮目相看,8首歌Don Henley就主唱了5首,他在乐团中的份量可想而知了.
"老鹰"折翼,团员单飞
　　　Don Henley与Glen Frey愈是抢眼,Randy Meisner这位创团元老就愈显得黯然失色,1977年Meisner也决意离去.1978年12月23日,Eagles在第20届格莱美奖中获两项奖,但是Eagles却没有参加这个盛会,原因是他们认为此奖不够真实而有虚伪之感,他们的才华不需要格莱美奖来认定,唱片销路好,演唱会卖座就已经得到大家的肯定了.
　　
　　　花了18个月的时间才完成了专辑<<The Long Run>>的工作.Eagles真可说是跑了很长一段时间才有新作推出,但谁又知道录制的工作是在团员争论不休的情形下进行的,所以从这张专辑的气势看,的确比以往几张逊色了许多,喜欢他们的歌迷依然主动去接受这张新作,因此受欢迎程度亦不比以往差.<<The Long Run>>于1979年11月3日蝉联专辑榜达8周之久,节奏感非常强烈的单曲<<Heartache Tonight>>也非常流行.于1977年9月才加入的新手Tebothy B. Schmit,以前曾在Poco呆了7年之久,这次与Eagles合作唱了一首慢板抒情佳作<<I Can't Tell You Why>>,果然给歌迷另一种清新的感受.
　　
　　　<<The Long Run>>推出后,Eagles因为Don Henley与Glen Frey的不合而名存实亡了.他们的制作人Bill Szymcz于1980年7月在长堤体育场为他们举办了一场演唱会,没想到这真的成了Eagles散席前的最后一次聚合,Bill很感慨地对那个夜晚说了一句"Long Night at Wrong Beach"!
Hell Freeze Over
　　　合久必分,分久必合.94年Don Henley,Glen Frey,Don Felder,Joe Walsh,Tebothy B. Schmit又走到了一起,全球的鹰迷兴奋不已,终于等到了期待已久的声音.
