KILLING JOKE是一支典型的英国后朋克乐队，乐队成立于80年代早期.以剧烈的节奏和主唱令人惊异的表演而著称。
主唱兼键盘手Jaz Coleman具有埃及血统.曾加入Matt Stagger乐队弹键盘.以后.JazColiman与乐队鼓手Panl Ferguson退出该乐，.找来吉他手Geotdie.贝司手Martin Glover.组成"KILLING JOKE"乐队。
乐队搬到伦敦后，发行了一张EP<<Turn to Red>>，通过BBC电台的宣传使乐队为听众所喜爱。随后Iskand唱片公司为乐队成立了自己的制作公司。
1980年2月，乐队发行单曲<<Wardance>>，此单曲唱片的B面歌曲<<Pssyche>>极为出色。乐队的广泛影响使他们同EG唱片公司签约，并保留了自己的厂牌。同年乐队发行了首张同名专辑，乐队发展了一种粗糙，独特的风格――一种朋克.重金属.黑人音乐的混合体。乐队与当时大多数后朋克乐团最明显的质别标志：吉他张力拉伸后成为作品力量与智慧的一场生死角逐。
不久，乐队在格拉斯哥演唱会被官方禁演，理由是演出宣传画上描绘了教皇派厄斯七世正在向两件希特勒的棕色衬衫祷告。此画是乐队惯用的黑色幽默，在唱片封套和内页里经常出现。
1983年的专辑<<Night Time>>增添了许多商业元素，其中热门单曲<<Love Like Blood>>。
1986年<<Brighter Than A Tousand Suns>>差些被乐迷认为是一张金属作品，早期原始的冲击感觉隐去了。
1990年，乐队回到最佳状态，发行了出色的专辑<<Extremities,Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions>>，在这张专辑后，乐队解散。
1992年，乐队推出了精选辑<<Langh! I Nearly Bought one!>>，收录了乐队自成立以来专辑中的出色作品，包括<<Tutn to Red>>，＜＜Pssuche>>，<<Love Cike Blood>>等。
直到时1994年，乐队重组，出版了专辑<<Pandemonium>>。
1996年，乐队出版最新专辑<<Democrasy>>。
