出身于正统的军人家庭，在这个视音乐为噪音的家庭中，很难想像James Blunt是如何得到音乐的灵感的。从寄宿学校到大学，再到军队里，他从未放弃音乐。即使在1999年被派往科索沃作为维和部队的一员，他仍带上他的吉他，一面拿着枪，一面把吉他用皮带绑在坦克边上。在科索沃，他写下了No Bravery。在守卫了女王，葬下了太后后，在2002年他离开了部队，带上了歌稿，来到洛杉矶录制歌曲。原来一个英国人凭他的口音就可以在洛杉矶生活得很好。
在2004发行了他的第一张专辑Back To Bedlam（《回归疯人院》），但正式在英国发行是在2005年。而他的第三张单曲You're Beautiful在这个时候已经发行。You're Beautiful还被人称为Elton John的Your Song的现在继承版。的确这首歌很好听。于是他的单曲You're Beautiful成为了英国单曲榜的第一，已经持续了两周，而他的专辑在英国专辑榜，连续两周获得第一。他的声音还被一家杂志评价为“堕落的天使”，在You're Beautiful中，忧郁的嗓音加上忧郁的音乐，就成就了这首忧郁歌曲的成功。
这就是英国专辑榜连续两周的冠军，《回归疯人院》，来感受这位英国上尉的战争伤感吧。
